History of the Whistle Pigs Band
Story of Our Name: One of the founding members of the Whistle Pigs, Mike Pixley, told us a story of living in Idaho and passing the time by sitting on his back porch, cocktail and shotgun in hand, and shooting at the prairie dogs that were sticking their heads out of their holes, whistling at one another. Since prairie dogs are also known as whistle pigs, and we thought this was a funny story, we named the band Whistle Pigs and the Common Prairie Dog Brass.
Prairie Dog: (genus Cynomys) Inhabiting much of North America, the prairie dog was given its name for its voice. The prairie dog, which lives in communities with other prairie dogs, is strong and makes a good pet.
Whistle Pigs: (genus Prairius Doggus) Large Midwestern musical family known for its brass and vocal harmonies. Experience and professionalism are common characteristics of this animal. They are strong and make good pets.
